Probably one of the most anticipated shoots of my life to date was this one!!! The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs project has seen me shoot some inspirational athletes and pooches and this was certainly no exception! Australian surfing legend and current World champ, Mick Fanning and his beautiful Belgian Shepherd X Lab’, Harper, were an absolute pleasure to work with… In fact, right from the first communications I ever had with Mick, I was blown away with how humble, courteous and selfless he was. Mick is a true gentleman and after seeing him and Harp’s in action, the man is a huge animal lover, advocate for the welfare of dogs, and supporter of RSPCA Qld. It was a no-brainer to have Mick as a WOD Dogs feature… Hopefully the pics do this dynamic duo justice! A special thanks must go out to EzyDog for their support and supplying Mick and Harps with some amazing gear also.

It’s been one hell of a weekend and it all culminated with one of the most fun shoots I have had in a long time… These ladies were RAD! As was Chad and the pooches! Bekk Millwood; PT and Nutritional Health Coach asked me a while ago if I would like to shoot her  and her clients as part of their annual celebrations for goals and milestones achieved; and of course, I jumped at the offer! Bekk has been a staunch supporter to the WOD Dogs project and is an avid animal lover, so the shoot was always going to incorporate her clients’ dogs! The ladies, dogs and Bekk’s beau, Chad, were a heap of fun… and seriously awesome models. As you will see below!

The WOD Dogs Project has taken me on a pretty special journey, meeting some amazing athletes, even more amazing dogs, and receiving some amazing support in aid of RSPCA Qld and their fight against animal cruelty… Such support as that provided by Bec Kowald of *redstar apparel! Bec kindly offered her design skills and time to come up with the funky logo design for the WOD Dogs Project (below)… Even Kara’s little Willow can’t keep her eye’s off it!

For anyone in need of branding, graphic design or wanting some quality CrossFit attire, I highly recommend Bec and *redstar apparel!

Here’s a little about Bec’s services and *redstar apparel:

I’ve always been passionate about two things in life, animals and design, so it only seemed natural for me to help Trav out with the WOD Dogs project.

My husband, Aaron, and I have a tennis ball-obsessed mini-groodle called Jackson. Jackson provides us with so much light and love, he’s not just a pet but a family member.

I am a self-confessed social media junkie, especially on Instagram, and if I could post photos of Jackson everyday without losing friends I probably would.

By day, I am a graphic designer for a corporate and creative agency, and I have more than seven years’ design experience in both the public and private sectors. One of my major professional achievements was taking the role of lead designer for the successful 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Bid Document, which was presented in Kuala Lumpur by the former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh. In my spare time I work as a freelance designer working with clients on projects such as branding, collateral and web design.

Late last year, along with my husband and business partner, we combined a new passion (CrossFit) with design and created a CrossFit apparel company called *redstar apparel. Where we train at AJ CrossFit in Carina, *redstar is the status awarded to the strongest and/or fastest athlete in each WOD for each day. Our aim is to provide uniquely designed, high quality workout and lifestyle wear for athletes who want to stand out from the masses.

*redstar also offers affiliate branding and design services, and I have recently been working with FBP CrossFit on their CrossFit Regionals team kit, which will feature co-branded *redstar and FBP CrossFit apparel.”

Well, Sunday definitely wasn’t a rest day for me… 2 x WOD Dogs shoots with 2 x pocket rockets and their beautiful pooches were on my itinerary. First up was this amazing little lady – Jessica Lai (J-Lai) and her mate, Roofus! J-Lai is one of those girls that I am sure others love to hate because of her natural talent, strength and ability to make every movement look like precision ballet! J-Lai is also on the road to the Commonwealth Games in the sport of Weightlifting… Pending her AWF (Australian Weightlifting Federation) hosted trials on 14 March (this weekend) at the Mercure on the Gold Coast, J-Lai will very likely be representing the country in Scotland! Here’s a sneak peek at some of the shots we took today as part of the WOD Dogs Project in an attempt to raise much needed funds for RSPCA Qld

The first shoot of the SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs road trip was at the new, elaborate, and slick CrossFit Lake Macquarie with none other co-owner/coach, and Again Faster sponsored athlete Vicki Webber with her little rescue pooch, Gizmo! There wasn’t much that Gizmo couldn’t and wouldn’t do, so this feature was freaking fun to shoot, and if there was a CrossFit comp’ for dogs, Giz’ would eat it up!!! Like Dog like Mum, this duo has energy to burn… Here’s a taster of what will be published in the WOD Dogs photo-book!

This morning was spent with 2 extroadinary humans and their little canine pack, at one of the coolest boxes on the Gold Coast. I am talking about the very aesthetic Clay’ and Revie Schulz, their 3 pooches; Rhino, Tank and Peach, and their biz; CrossFit Babes Miami!

Clay’ and Revie were never not going to be a part of the WOD Dogs project… Both are avid dog lovers and animal welfare advocates, and if their dogs could speak, they would be up for ‘Parent of the Year’ nominations!

I don’t want to give too much away in this forum, as these guys have a beautiful story and I hope the images do their tight knit family justice. Here is a sneak peek at some of the images I captured today:

Want to be a part of the community and support those who defend the defenceless? Are you a business wanting to expand your exposure while achieving Corporate and Social Responsibility objectives? Are you an animal welfare advocate wanting to make a difference?

The *WOD Dogs Project (*WOD is a CrossFit term meaning ‘Workout Of the Day’) needs your help!

Every morning, the RSPCA Qld Inspectorate prepare to attend animal cruelty complaints throughout the State. Before departing for those jobs, they already face some major challenges:

•  Being ‘1 up’ (each Inspector has a designated area of operation and do not have the security of a partner as do Police, yet they deal with the same ‘clientele’ and therefore same dangers);

•  Lack of government funding (less than 2% of the annual operating budget is provided by government and yet RSPCA Qld require >$30,000,000.00 p.a. to keep doors open) means they must make do with limited resources; and,

•  Magistrates are handing down such lenient penalties for animal cruelty offences, not only does it set a laughable precedence, RSPCA Qld only recoup a very small portion of costs (legal, treatment and boarding) and so are forever ‘behind the eight ball’!

Once on the road performing their daily duties, the Inspectorate are then confronted with some unforgettable and life changing situations – such as the story of INDY; a female dog seen to be tossed from a car, starved so badly she was skeletal, dehydrated and more than 60% under her normal body weight, now rehabilitated and in a loving home, or the story of DIESEL; a young male dog castrated by his owner with a rubber band, suffering incredible pain and infection with no relief and or treatment for 10 days before RSPCA seized and treated him, or the story of SNOWY; a cat that was taped and torched yet managed to make its way back home before being found smouldering by his owner. SNOWY underwent major surgery numerous times and wasn’t expected to make it, yet did thanks to RSPCA intervention. The culprits are only sometimes brought to justice and not all jobs have a happy ending…

I have supported RSPCA Qld annually with various fundraising activities… This year, I wanted to combine my three absolute passions to raise much needed funds:

1. Health and Fitness,
2. Dogs, and
3. Photography.

And, so WOD Dogs was born… A published photo-book consisting of high profile athletes and their dogs, to promote healthy lifestyles, healthy dog ownership, and to raise much needed funds for RSPCA Qld through sales of the photo-book and sponsorship.

Want to be a part of the community and support those who defend the defenceless? Please visit the WOD Dogs project page >>HERE<< and find out how you can sponsor and support this project.

I love it when you can place your faith and trust in someone to produce results and in turn they amaze you with their talent and surpass your expectations… Such is the case with my WOD Dogs project. Given I have a lot of interstate athletes and pooches to capture, I simply couldn’t make it around the entire country to every one of them and so I needed to enlist some help… Enter the crazy talented Adam Lesniak!

For those of you that don’t know Adam; he’s my Again Faster Media counterpart in Melbourne and nearly all of what you see from Again Faster Australia is Adam’s handy work (…the ‘B-grade’ stuff is mine!). Make yourself familiar with Adam and his work at:

www.againfaster.com.au or www.facebook.com/adamlesniak.photo.vid

Given Adam’s talent and because he is just one of those blokes you can’t not love, he was/is perfect to be shooting our Melbourne based athletes… Enter the gorgeous Amy Dracup and her two cute as sh!t Frenchies, Echo and Cooper!

Amy is one serious athlete and one serious dog lover… So much so, she has incorporated them into the CrossFit Deux logo (owned by Amy and her husband, Bjorn Albrecht-Walker). This little powerhouse has some serious accolades to her name, including individual and team representation at the World CrossFit Games (individual in ’11, them team in ’12 & ’13), currently holds a spot on the Commonwealth Weightlifting Development Squad, and is sponsored by Reebok, Pure Pharma and AlphaFit. We are pretty excited to have Amy and her pups as part of the WOD Dogs photo-book, and equally as excited to have Adam’s handy work as part of it too!!! Here is a sneak peek from Amy’s shoot recently…

*WOD Dogs is a fundraising project in support of RSPCA Qld… All proceeds from sales of the photo-book (once complete) go to helping RSPCA Qld Inspectorate fight animal cruelty…
