Probably one of the most anticipated shoots of my life to date was this one!!! The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs project has seen me shoot some inspirational athletes and pooches and this was certainly no exception! Australian surfing legend and current World champ, Mick Fanning and his beautiful Belgian Shepherd X Lab’, Harper, were an absolute pleasure to work with… In fact, right from the first communications I ever had with Mick, I was blown away with how humble, courteous and selfless he was. Mick is a true gentleman and after seeing him and Harp’s in action, the man is a huge animal lover, advocate for the welfare of dogs, and supporter of RSPCA Qld. It was a no-brainer to have Mick as a WOD Dogs feature… Hopefully the pics do this dynamic duo justice! A special thanks must go out to EzyDog for their support and supplying Mick and Harps with some amazing gear also.

The Schulz family are pretty much the most genetically blessed in all of the land (that’s not to say they don’t work hard, because they do – In every aspect of their lives)! Even their dogs are cute as sh*t!  Here are two of the ‘Fab 5’, just hanging out at CrossFit Babes Miami, pulling trucks and being generally awesome… SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs feature athlete and dog – Clay and Rhino:

After a little break, the SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs project has resumed with one awesome little family. Gregg and An Wilson of (the very new and very kick-ar$e) CrossFit Dux, and their two Samoyeds; Bear and Sai, happily gave up some of their weekend to pull off some funky, cute and athletic poses in front of the camera (something a little foreign to Gregg, given he is an extremely talented photographer himself and is usually the one taking the pics – You can check out his rad work >>HERE<<)… This dynamic duo LOVE CrossFit and LOVE their dogs… A fitting combination of passions, and the reason they were a ‘no-brainer’ to be a part of this project. Here’s a little sneak peek at some of what we got up to:

I am working on a few things with an amazing company, shooting some gifted athletes… I can’t announce much more just at the moment; however, I am pretty excited at the opportunities this particular group have given me and I look fwd to being able to reveal all soon!

One such shoot was with this little legend, Kara Webb… My second with her in as many weeks!!! Outstanding athlete and even more outstanding person… Thanks CrossFit Roar for having me and apologies for taking up valuable floorspace during open gym!!!

The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs road trip took us to a very cool little box owned by Sion Cousins and his partner, Natasha KazmierczakCrossFit Bodhi. On arrival, we thought we had ventured into a zoo when Sash, the Lab x Panther, stealthily made her way over to us, blending into the black rubber flooring… She was one of the most majestic looking dogs I have ever seen, and from the photos below, I think you’ll agree! Sion, Tash and Sashs’ story is a special one, and without giving too much away, here is some of what Tash had to tell me about their unity…

“We came across Sasha after Sion started following Big Dog Rescue. One of our friends had rescued a gorgeous dog from there a while back. Sion saw her photo and shared on Facebook to get people interested in adopting her. The share was almost successful with a few friends of ours interested, plus our families who also contemplated taking her too. But the more and more we shared, they just never turned out. So one day we decided that we want to meet her ourselves. When she got out of the car, we fell in love! She was this gentle giant who just didn’t have a care in the world and was so loving!”

And, the rest is history… Sash’ hasn’t left Sion and Tashs’ sides from that moment. Here is a sneak peek at some of the images we caught at CrossFit Bodhi!

The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs Project is boasting some pretty big names in the sporting (and canine!) community, and this feature is definitely no exception! Laura Geitz, captain of the Australian Netball Diamonds and Queensland Firebirds, Commonwealth Games silver medallist and Liz Ellis Diamond recipient, is also an ambassador for RSPCA Qld, and huge animal welfare advocate! Laura and her beautiful Staffy, Charlie, are the perfect fit to feature in the WOD Dogs photo-book and our shoot this week WASN’T a hard task!

A huge thank you must be given to EzyDog! Tom and Gareth travelled from their Gold Coast office to attend the shoot and kit out Charlie in the latest EzyDog canine accessories!

Well the WOD Dogs road trip is well & truly underway and it is a great time to say a big ‘thank you’ to another of our amazing sponsors Belinda Wasowski from Intensity PT & The Invincible Woman for helping make this all possible.

Belinda first showed her dedication to the cause in 2011 when she participated in the grueling RSPCA 24hr Workout for Charity and has since been an avid supporter of all things animal welfare. Belinda is a doting mum to a beautiful Border Collie, named Henry and her businesses are changing the lives of the people who train with her & participate in her workshops by helping them become the best versions of themselves.

Without the support of people like Belinda, Again Faster Australia & SportsMed this trip would not have been possible. I would not have been able to shoot the mad folk at CrossFit Lake Macquarie, chase the cheeky Cockerspaniel, Wilbur, around the gym at Flow Athletic or have the task of trying to get Sash’ the Mastiff x Panther at CrossFit Bohdi to stay awake long enough for a photo!

Looking forward to the rest of the trip and the remainder of our ‘grey nomad’ journey. Hot tip for young players…. Parking a campervan in Sydney & Melbourne CBD is ALWAYS going to be challenging. Try to keep your roadrage in check. Now, a bit about The Invincible Woman:

The Invincible Woman is an initiative created by performance and wellness coach Belinda Wasowski. Through this initiative, Belinda delivers workshops for women and has created a growing forum for workshop participants to network and gain support and inspiration.

So, how did The Invincible Woman come about?

Working with her female coaching clients, Performance and wellness coach, Belinda Wasowski could see that there was more to achieving body composition goals than just a great nutrition plan and an effective training program.  Overall wellness and empowerment seemed to be a really important factor, and mindset had a lot to do with their success and results.

In 2011, Belinda met Dr Libby Quinn – a Clinical Psychologist – who later became a coaching client of Belinda’s. Their shared passion for helping women become the happiest, healthiest version of themselves led to the creation of a women’s only workshop: Defeating Self-Sabotage.

Belinda delivers the popular Defeating Self-Sabotage workshops with fellow wellness coach and food blogger, Shannon Cooper of My Food Religion.

Having fought her own demons – body image issues and anxiety – Belinda draws on her own personal experience and professional knowledge in the work she does with The Invincible Woman.

Belinda’s philosophy is to live in a way that says ‘I love my body and want to nourish it, challenge it and improve it’. Belinda believes that far too many women live in a way that says ‘I hate my body and want to restrict it, punish it and change it’.
