POD – 070914

For those that know me, know that I am an excitable dude… And so when I was confronted with the bodies and personalities of these ladies to shoot, I was pretty freaking excited!!! Amelia, Jacinda, Jaana and Darcia, are all stepping on stage in their first ever figure comps over the next fortnight, and so wanted to get some shots taken as a memento of their hard work and dedication… These bad a$$ ladies have been constructed by none other than Ms. Figure Pro Universe, Tammie Sarkozy. So, it was little wonder they were looking extremely sharp and well prepared! The afternoon was one of my most fun to date and it couldn’t have been the success it was without the support of CrossFit Torian as one well kitted out FITography studio!!!

It’s fair to say that Tammie Sarkozy blew me away today at our shoot… This woman’s body is a work of art! Tam’ is 3 weeks out from the Musclemania Universe Comp’ in the Figure Pro Division, held in Florida… Tam’ was awarded her Pro Card in 2012 during Musclemania, Figure America, Figure Division where she took 1st place! This will be Tam’s 8th show after taking 1.5yrs off competing, to do some body reconstruction… And the reno’ is looking insane!!! This is proof, ladies, that women with muscle ARE HOT!!!

A special thanks to Zack Williams and Simon Colley of Gym Cartel – Newstead for giving us the perfect space to capture some pretty rad pics today! You boys are 2 of the best in the business, and Gym Cartel is testament to that!

P.S. You also have 2 of the best beards in the business!

The WOD Dogs of our CrossFit Regionals (Australia) Athletes thought they would send some personal messages of love and good luck to their amazingly talented, athlete humans… And while I am on the topic, I would like to thank each of you for being a part of this project. You are all an inspiration, show true grace and talent in your sport (and personally) and regardless of where you place, you are all number one in my eyes!

WOD Dogs isn’t all about the balls to the wall, blood, sweat and hand tears of CrossFit. It is about all athletes of all disciplines and their dogs. Something that I lack and many others do, is balance. If it isn’t making me want to puke, I don’t want to participate… But as I age and the niggles become show stopping injuries or mobility impacting scar tissue, I am soon realising that I should have been doing my ‘Downward Dogs’ when I was really drowning myself in Cortisol and priming myself for mass inflammation! Someone who is working to improve the health and wellbeing of as many peeps as she can, all over the world, is Jamie Louise Stevenson… Owner and Head Chef of Orawgi (vegan, raw, whole-food cafe), and Chief Yogi of Turf Studios (if you haven’t been to either, you need to give yourself a left hook, as Orawgi is one big, healthy, #mouthparty and Turf Studios is one of the funkiest yoga centres in the WORLD… Okay, maybe I am bias and maybe I’ve only ever visited 2 yoga studios in my time, but Turf does rock!!!) – collocated on Ipswich Rd, Woolloongabba. As soon as I met this inspirational woman, it was clear that Jamie was on a mission to make everyone she encountered happier and healthier, and that includes her dog, Roxy. There is a special bond between these two, and very few minutes in the day that they are apart… I hope I captured ‘the love’ in the below sneak peek… All in support of RSPCA Qld!

Had a stellar morning at another top CrossFit Box this morning; CrossFit Brendale, owned and run by legendary couple Al and Em’ Pitt. I was asked to get some shots of the new set-up and their classes. The place is IMPRESSIVE, as are the members and coaches. A magical morning and hopefully I have managed to pull off some half decent shots for their new website?!?! I’ll let you be the judge, based on this little preview:

I am working on a few things with an amazing company, shooting some gifted athletes… I can’t announce much more just at the moment; however, I am pretty excited at the opportunities this particular group have given me and I look fwd to being able to reveal all soon!

One such shoot was with this little legend, Kara Webb… My second with her in as many weeks!!! Outstanding athlete and even more outstanding person… Thanks CrossFit Roar for having me and apologies for taking up valuable floorspace during open gym!!!

We don’t need to wish you luck J-Lai. Only congrats in advance! For those who don’t know, Jessica Lai (pictured) is one amazingly talented olympic weightlifter and will be throwing some heavy sh!t around this weekend at the AWF Commonwealth Games Trials on the Gold Coast. If you were looking for something to do this weekend (J-Lai lifts Saturday morning), the Mercure Resort is where this pocket rocket and other top lifters from across the country will be strutting their stuff!

The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs road trip took me back to my home town, Warrnambool… Also home to the ridiculously awesome, Again Faster Development Athlete, and CrossFit Warrnambool coach Claire Fraser, her partner Jon Burchell and their two furry wrecking balls, Jeff and Millie. We had some serious fun during this shoot… I think the dogs had the most fun – As you can see by their cheeky ‘Cheshire cat’ grins!
