The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs road trip took me back to my home town, Warrnambool… Also home to the ridiculously awesome, Again Faster Development Athlete, and CrossFit Warrnambool coach Claire Fraser, her partner Jon Burchell and their two furry wrecking balls, Jeff and Millie. We had some serious fun during this shoot… I think the dogs had the most fun – As you can see by their cheeky ‘Cheshire cat’ grins! Thanks for having us Claire, Jon’ and the entire team at CrossFit Warrnambool!!! Great box, great crew, great town! Enjoy the little preview:

Late last year I teamed up with a mate of mine; Sally Brouwer of Sally Brouwer Fitness to award the winner of Sal’s 10 Week Challenge, a dedicated ‘fitness shoot’ and supply of images.

The winner, with a notable transformation (you can see the before and after pics >>HERE<<), was Michaela Smith… This is her story and some of the pics from our shoot at one of my favourite boxes; the very cool CrossFit 189 in Crestmead:

  1. Tell us a little big about yourself, ie, training/sporting background, where you are from, job, hobbies:

Originally from Rockhampton where I grew up. I was often involved in team sports throughout school. I have recently moved to Brisbane in March 2012 to begin training as a Police recruit. Now living in the North Gold Coast and working in Logan as an officer.

  1. Where do you currently train? And, what do you love about it?

I currently train at Crossfit 189 in Crestmead. I love the family that you become a part of, the community you join is like no other sport I have been involved in.

  1. How did you hear about Sally Brouwer, and what compelled you to enter the 10 week challenge?

I heard about Sally through work and wanted to kick start a new healthy lifestyle and thought what better way to start. I needed to challenge myself to make a change.

  1. What did the 10 week challenge teach you about yourself?

It taught me that if I get myself organised, preparing lunches and dinners makes life a lot easier and I am able to eat better food, rather than turning to something less healthy.

  1. Looking back, what are some of the lifestyle changes you have had to make to ensure you reach your goals?

Being organised and preparing meals in advance and knowing what I’ll be eating all that week. So there is no hassle come the end of the day and not knowing.

  1. What are you further goals in health, fitness and wellbeing?

I still have a long way to go to reach my health, fitness and wellbeing goals. They all fall into eachother – the idea is just to keep getting better and making the right choices everyday and to just maintain a healthy lifestyle.

  1. If you could give any advice to anyone reading this right now, what would it be?

Get rid of the negativity in you life, whether it’s people or choices. Change your way of thinking and eat clean.

My camera is fast becoming a permanently attached fixture to my arm, and I am blessed to be busier than a one armed truck driver with itchy ‘googs’ of late! I have been extremely lucky to be asked to take images for some business’ websites and one such business is the insanely impressive Function Well Health and Fitness Centre located in Newstead. Without bias, Function Well is run by one of the most well reputed fitness professionals in the industry (Darren Bain) and supported by a team of first class trainers, customer service, sales and remedial therapy practitioners. The gym itself is lavishly decked to cater any serious athlete, yogi, or just your recreational/beginner. The entire venue, atmosphere and ambience is something unmatched in Brisbane… If you want to experience luxury, while beasting yourself over a METCON or PT session, complete bliss through some of the more gentle classes, or need to be repaired through some massage or naturopathy, Function Well is your one stop shop. Get.On.Board.

Here is only one image I can share, taken for the new website… For more, get over to the site >>HERE<< or go visit the place and have your skirt blown sky high by how awesome it is!

The first shoot of the SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs road trip was at the new, elaborate, and slick CrossFit Lake Macquarie with none other co-owner/coach, and Again Faster sponsored athlete Vicki Webber with her little rescue pooch, Gizmo! There wasn’t much that Gizmo couldn’t and wouldn’t do, so this feature was freaking fun to shoot, and if there was a CrossFit comp’ for dogs, Giz’ would eat it up!!! Like Dog like Mum, this duo has energy to burn… Here’s a taster of what will be published in the WOD Dogs photo-book!

The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs Project is boasting some pretty big names in the sporting (and canine!) community, and this feature is definitely no exception! Laura Geitz, captain of the Australian Netball Diamonds and Queensland Firebirds, Commonwealth Games silver medallist and Liz Ellis Diamond recipient, is also an ambassador for RSPCA Qld, and huge animal welfare advocate! Laura and her beautiful Staffy, Charlie, are the perfect fit to feature in the WOD Dogs photo-book and our shoot this week WASN’T a hard task!

A huge thank you must be given to EzyDog! Tom and Gareth travelled from their Gold Coast office to attend the shoot and kit out Charlie in the latest EzyDog canine accessories!

Here’s a little sneak peek at some of the images from the day:

I am not an advocate of Valentines Day and it is coincidence that I am dedicating this post to the most special person in my life and someone who gives me unconditional support and love, beyond what I or anyone would ever deserve in a lifetime. The SportsMed sponsored WOD Dogs Road Trip couldn’t have been executed the way it was without my wife. Shan’ was many things over the trip; a dog whisperer at every shoot, would cook extravagant paleo meals at every stop, was my source of entertainment with her *amazing* singing and jokes on every driving leg, and was the best friend I could ever ask to share this experience with… So, these are for you Shan. I love you…
