Want to be a part of the community and support those who defend the defenceless? Are you a business wanting to expand your exposure while achieving Corporate and Social Responsibility objectives? Are you an animal welfare advocate wanting to make a difference?

The *WOD Dogs Project (*WOD is a CrossFit term meaning ‘Workout Of the Day’) needs your help!

Every morning, the RSPCA Qld Inspectorate prepare to attend animal cruelty complaints throughout the State. Before departing for those jobs, they already face some major challenges:

•  Being ‘1 up’ (each Inspector has a designated area of operation and do not have the security of a partner as do Police, yet they deal with the same ‘clientele’ and therefore same dangers);

•  Lack of government funding (less than 2% of the annual operating budget is provided by government and yet RSPCA Qld require >$30,000,000.00 p.a. to keep doors open) means they must make do with limited resources; and,

•  Magistrates are handing down such lenient penalties for animal cruelty offences, not only does it set a laughable precedence, RSPCA Qld only recoup a very small portion of costs (legal, treatment and boarding) and so are forever ‘behind the eight ball’!

Once on the road performing their daily duties, the Inspectorate are then confronted with some unforgettable and life changing situations – such as the story of INDY; a female dog seen to be tossed from a car, starved so badly she was skeletal, dehydrated and more than 60% under her normal body weight, now rehabilitated and in a loving home, or the story of DIESEL; a young male dog castrated by his owner with a rubber band, suffering incredible pain and infection with no relief and or treatment for 10 days before RSPCA seized and treated him, or the story of SNOWY; a cat that was taped and torched yet managed to make its way back home before being found smouldering by his owner. SNOWY underwent major surgery numerous times and wasn’t expected to make it, yet did thanks to RSPCA intervention. The culprits are only sometimes brought to justice and not all jobs have a happy ending…

I have supported RSPCA Qld annually with various fundraising activities… This year, I wanted to combine my three absolute passions to raise much needed funds:

1. Health and Fitness,
2. Dogs, and
3. Photography.

And, so WOD Dogs was born… A published photo-book consisting of high profile athletes and their dogs, to promote healthy lifestyles, healthy dog ownership, and to raise much needed funds for RSPCA Qld through sales of the photo-book and sponsorship.
